How to Maintain Your Fertility Diet During The Holidays
The holidays are quickly approaching *cue Mariah Carey Christmas music* and you may be a bit nervous trying to figure out how to maintain your fertility diet. There is a myth that you should cheat on your diet during your vacation. Your vacation is actually a great time to start some new routines because you are out of your normal environment. Don't let being on vacation be an excuse for you not to nourish your body. Follow the easy tips below and you’ll be just fine!
Plan Ahead |
Plan on bringing your own food, and if you can’t hit your local grocery store to find healthy snacks and treats. While you’re there grab a few green juices (if you’re unable to make your own) and add the Spirulina powder you remembered to pack for an extra boost. If you're traveling out of town, do some research on restaurants and grocery stores in your area before you get on the road.
Stay Hydrated |
I’m sure you already know why this is extremely important especially if you’re going to be flying. Avoid alcoholic beverages as they tend to dehydrate you, but if you can’t resist make it a glass of red wine and drink a glass of water before and a glass of water after you enjoy it.
Don’t Overeat |
Say no to a food baby this year and stop eating BEFORE you start feeling full. If you do overeat, get up and go for a walk to help digestion and enjoy some peppermint or ginger tea.
Remember the 80/20 Rule |
At least 80% of the food you eat should be nourishing your body. I don’t believe in restricting diets, so you can still enjoy the things you love - just enjoy it 20% or less of the time.
Don’t Skip Meals |
It’s hard to remember to eat when you’re doing all the shopping or hanging out with family and friends, but it’s extremely important that you remember to eat at least three meals each day to maintain your blood sugar and keep your body functioning properly.
Eat Warming Foods |
With the weather changing it’s important that you keep your womb warm. You can do this by eating warming foods like soups, stews, broths, root vegetables, Ginger, and Turmeric.
Remember to Eat Green Things |
Load your plate with veggies, steamed, cooked, or raw if that’s your thing. It’s easy to forget to eat green vegetables with all the starchy food in front of you but you most remember to have at least three servings of something green each day.
Just because you’re out of your element doesn’t mean you can’t stay on top of your workouts. You may not feel like going to the gym, but if you do - research ahead of time and see if your gym has a branch in city you're visiting or ask a friend or relative for a guest pass to theirs. If its not too cold go for a walk in the morning or 15-30 minutes on the treadmill in your hotel gym.
Inform Relatives |
Let people know you’re making healthier changes in your life. If you don’t eat meat, dairy, gluten, or soy - let people know so that they can make accommodations for you. It’s totally okay if you’re not comfortable sharing information about your fertility journey, but do tell them about the healthy changes you’ve made so they can help you maintain them.
